Kill Bill 3 Rumors on Twitter?

This is a public service announcement for everyone who would be as excited as I would about this news, if there was even a remote chance it was for real.

Rumors are spreading that Quentin Tarantino announced via “his” twitter account that Kill Bill 3 is written and on it’s way to released in 2013. It’s not. Or even if it was, we certainly haven’t heard anything about it yet.  Accounts go on to note how this twitter linked to a teaser pdf of the screenplay (posted on mediafire) and implied that Chloe Moretz had already signed to play Beatrix Kiddo’s daughter.

I am genuinely a little bit sad people are even getting excited about all this.

1. No one could convince me he wouldn’t have a verified twitter account and that this is how he would choose to announce this.

2. Is anyone bothering to read back in the posts on this account? OBVIOUSLY a fake.  I don’t know how anyone is retweeting this or posting it up on tumblr as anything serious, but please stop.

I almost got really excited for a minute and I was very, very disappointed to see how clearly full of shit this was.

“Veronica Mars” might make it to the big screen… or at least a screenplay.

Via TVGuide:  Rob Thomas says that he and Kristin Bell are “both in” and the movie is his next project after Cupid… provided someone will pay for it.

(Come on, Hollywood, I really want to see this movie happen!)

And I know I’m not the only one.  However, I’m not sure it would do any business really.  I don’t know how a “Veronica Mars” movie would have any appeal to anyone other than fans and the fans weren’t enough to save the series, so I’m guessing they are going to have a hard time getting anyone to bankroll this movie.

I wish that wasn’t true.   Ah well

New Batman Rumor: Cher as Catwoman?

(via /film)

And The Dark Knight sequel gossip continues. Could Cher be in line to play Catwoman in the next Batman installment? The British newspaper The Telegraph is citing a “studio executive” source, claiming that Cher us “Nolan’s first choice” for the role.

“He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years,” says the Telegraph’s source. “The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

I agree with slashfilm, that this is not very likely.   Regardless of Cher’s abilities as an actress (Moonstruck f’n rocks and I don’t care what anyone says) or that an aging icon playing an aging diva supervillian is kind of a cool idea – as of a couple weeks ago, Nolan hadn’t even officially signed on for a third film.  Which makes any casting rumors, at this point, a bit ridiculous.

Slashfilm also provided this neat little Batman rumor timeline, which I totally appreciate because I thoroughly enjoy organizational tools for geekiness:

  • June 29th: Gary Oldman suggested The Riddler might be the main villain during an interview with /Film. It was unclear if he had any information reguarding that possible direction, or if he was just thinking out loud.
  • July 3rd: Goyer admitted to BatmanOnFilm that the realistic tone of the Nolanverse would prevent some of the more unrealistic characters from making an appearance: “You’re not going to see Clayface in these films”
  • July 9th: David Goyer told /Film at the Junket: ‘There are dozens, if not hundreds of other characters that are possibilities. Everyone says you have you use the Penquin or Catwoman. Well, I completely disagree.”
  • July 21st: Goyer admits to MTV that he has “talked loosely about” the theme for the third film. And of course, the theme has always been connected with the choice of villains.
  • July 27th: The New York Daily News reported that Angelina Jolie had inquired about playing the role.
  • August 15th: Variety reports that Warner Bros has offered Christopher Nolan a deal for a third film, but Nolan hasn’t yet signed on: “We have no idea where Chris is going with this,” Alan Horn said. “We haven’t had any conversations with him about it.”

More Batman buzz – some movie rumors + some comics news.

In addition to the recent news that Neil Gaiman is writing a Batman two-parter that will come out in January 2009, Kevin Smith will also be writing a Batman mini-series, with good pal Walt Flanagan (via /film).  His will come out in November 2008.

Any thoughts?  I am intrigued.  I love Batman in general and it will be fun this Fall/Winter to have two writers (Gaiman and Smith) that I really respect giving us what I anticipate will be very different takes on something that has been done so many times over, particularly following The Dark Knight which was the best Batman anything I’ve seen, maybe ever.   I think most people think of Kevin Smith as a filmmaker/director, but I actually think of him as a filmmaker/writer, more than a director.  He primarily is a writer, the direction just happens so he can make his own films.  He’s said as much himself.  So I do look forward to seeing his writing set in a different universe than New Jersey.  I also heard he had a great Daredevil run for a short while, years ago.

(Note to self… see if I can get my hands on a copy of Kevin Smith’s Daredevil books.  For research purposes, of course.)

In the Hollywood rumor mill, people are getting themselves all churned up over an incredibly far-fetched rumor that Angelina Jolie may be attached to the next Nolan film, as Catwoman.  I say, not likely.  So says the Geeks of Doom. And they have a lot more authority, even just in blog title, than I do.   Regardless, it sounds ridiculous that Nolan would be following up The Dark Knight with a Catwoman-as-villain film.  I just can’t see it.

But how about Johnny Depp as the Riddler and… here’s my personal favorite… Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin?!!???! (again via Geeks of Doom)

Now don’t get me wrong – I love PSH.  PSH is one of my all-time favorite-favorite actors.  He is brilliant.  He could make it work.  I’m convinced he can make anything work.  Could I see it happening following The Dark Knight? I really can’t answer that, because I’m having a hard time processing anyone being able to match or even try to top that film, to be honest.

And Johnny Depp as the Riddler is also a mixed bag.  He is kind of the “go to” wacky character actor right now and I’m not sure what he would do with the role.  I think it could be good.  I also think it could be too much.  I don’t know.

Again, thoughts?

Oh also… what do we think about Paul Bettany as the Riddler?  Or Parker Posey as Poison Ivy?

(I’m helping to spread some completely unfounded gossip and start some of my own)
