Muppet Family Christmas: Accept No Substitutes

I just wanted to share with you all how excited I am to be watching this right now.  A Muppet Family Christmas was on television in the late 80′s and we taped it (commercials and all) off tv.  My brothers and I watched this about 3 billion times over the holidays growing up.  It’s absolutely delightful.  It has all the quirkiness of the Muppet Show tucked into a narrative about everyone crashing Fozzie’s Mom’s house for the holidays.   While I enjoy The Muppet Christmas Carol as well (and will also watch that in the coming weeks), I prefer this special because it’s the characters themselves that make it awesome, not playing other roles.  And this beats the hell out of a lot of animated junk that runs continuously on cable passing for a christmas special these days.  So if you have kids, definitely watch this with them.  And if you are “childlike” like me (that’s a nice way of saying that I still act like a little kid at every opportunity), or you just enjoy the Muppets, check this out.

Maybe it’s just me, but even as a grown-up, Muppets humor never gets old for me.   This one has slapstick running gags like everyone slipping on an icy patch on the front stoop, Stantler and Waldorf heckling everyone, the Swedish chef attempting to cook Big Bird (and then singing a duet with him instead) and Sam the Eagle showing up to snark at the festivities “Why Am I Here?” and “Is NOTHING sacred!”.    It also features other Henson creations, so you have the Muppets mixed in with the old school Sesame Street characters and my personal favorites The Fraggles.

It’s awesomesauce.  And you can see it in parts on youtube, because several people have it up there.

First: PLAYSCHOOL DINOSAURS ARE BIG AND STRONG AND TOUGH I CAN PLAY WITH THEM REAL ROUGH!!!!!!!

Next: I made Fraggle Rocks out of fimo one year for my family, I also typed out the whole pre-scene and the “pass it on” song and passed that out.

Seriously. It’s on a tape called “Ashley’s Favorites”

I love this one. I managed to get a DVD copy on ebay a couple of years ago. It’s my favorite Christmas movie. :)
