the list of now’s year in music + “best music of 2008” lists round-up

By bonnie, 14 December, 2008

This year I didn’t really follow new releases or review any albums. I have been working on many other projects and so when I reflect on a list for this past year of my “favorites”, it would be comprised of songs that I came across this year – many not from this year’s record releases, but were new to me and found in 2008 regardless. This is a mix of some of those songs.

And here is a round-up of some other great lists from blogs that I read:

Short, sweet and visual.

With great little reviews/descriptions

Providence Daily Dose
I’ve been following their countdown for a couple of weeks now and enjoying that they are also posting sample tracks to listen.  I have a feeling that many of these will end up on next year’s list now that I’m taking them as recommendations!

Mark Larson
This is one of my favorite lists because, like me, he also listed what he listened to this year, not releases from this year.  Two rounds of bonus points because a. he organized by month and b. he listed one of my favorite favorite albums of all time – talking timbuktu by ali farke toure and roy cooder.  it’s sublime.

Sound Opinions (Listen to their “Best of” Show)
I listened to this show yesterday.  You can read their lists on the linked page if you don’t want to listen.  Bonus points for me – They took only a few calls from listeners and two callers each named one of my top picks that were releases from this year (Mates of State and Fleet Foxes, respectively!)

Their Top 50

Post your lists, plus any more links I should know about in the comments!

And if you wanna hear some more mixes (many, I’m sure with more current music and better taste than mine), head over to You Ain’t No Picasso over the next couple weeks because the 12 days of MixMas started tonight!
